Automating Workout Creation for Power Plate® Group Classes
What is PlateSculpt?
PlateSculpt is a boutique fitness studio specializing in whole-body vibration training using Power Plates®. These machines use high-speed vibrations to stimulate muscles 30–50 times per second, enhancing stability and intensifying workouts. PlateSculpt offers classes that combine bodyweight exercises, cardio, and strength training, all performed on Power Plates® to elevate the workout experience.
I first joined PlateSculpt as a client, seeking a low-impact solution for muscle recovery. After a few months of championing the benefits, I became their newest group trainer.

The Problem
Our clients come to each class expecting to be pushed to their physical limits, demanding new and unique workout structures each time. As a new trainer, I struggled to consistently create fresh workouts for every class, especially when covering for other instructors who had specific styles (e.g., HIIT Circuits for HIIT Sculpt classes, Barre/Pilates Circuits for Sculpt Fusion classes).
Most instructors admitted to creating workouts either the morning of or on the fly during class, a practice that clearly wouldn’t scale as the studio planned to expand with more instructors and classes.
Recognizing this, I set out to create a solution that would support both new and existing instructors.

The Approach
To tackle the challenges identified, I conducted user interviews with four instructors and the studio owner to confirm the existing workout structures and uncover pain points in workout design. I knew from the jump that I wanted to create a digital solution to streamline the process, but with limited hands-on coding experience, I knew it was crucial to prioritize functionality and speed for immediate value delivery.
To determine the best approach, I constructed a prioritization matrix to evaluate several ideas against three key criteria:
Desirability: Does this address urgent pain points as identified by user feedback?
Viability: Can this effectively meet the needs of our instructors and scale as the studio grows?
Feasibility: Is it possible to build an MVP within 4 weeks given technical constraints?

The Objective and User Base
The objective was simple: build a workout generator for instructors to easily create and save customized workouts based on specific class needs. This app would allow instructors to:
- Generate workouts for their class
- Save workouts for future use
- Access a database of existing workouts

The Development
Taking full ownership of the product lifecycle, I managed all development tasks myself, from gathering user needs and prioritizing features to designing, building,
and testing the app.

Projected Outcomes &
Success Metrics
The PlateSculpt Workout Generator app has just launched, and I’m currently rolling it out to my fellow instructors. I’ll use regular check-ins and surveys with both instructors and clients to gather feedback, which will guide updates and new features. Check it out on the App Store!
Given the design and functionality of the app, I anticipate the following outcomes:

Future Features for V2 and Beyond

- OpenAI API for Form and Range of Motion Guidance: Generate text-based tips for each workout block, helping instructors guide proper form and range of motion during class.
- Amazon SageMaker for ML-Driven Feedback Integration: Use Amazon SageMaker to analyze client feedback uploaded by instructors. If 10+ clients dislike an exercise (e.g., flutter kicks), the system will adjust workout metadata to limit that exercise in future workouts.
- UX/UI Designer to Upgrade Interface: Hiring a designer from Fiverr to enhance the app's visuals
- Duplicate Detection: Detect and prevent the creation of workouts with 90% or more similarity to existing ones.
- Expansion to Include Niche Class Styles: Upgrade the initial build to incorporate additional class styles like Sculpt Fusion and Sculpt Restore.
- Beginner-Friendly Modifications: Allow instructors to generate modified versions of workouts to accommodate clients that are new or have limited mobility.
Future Expansion - Pilot with California-based PlateFit Locations

I’d love to pilot the app out west with PlateFit locations in Brentwood and Venice, California. These studios share a commitment to Power Plate group fitness, making them the perfect partners to help test and refine the app.
While a trip to Cali would be a sweet bonus, the real win would be gathering feedback from a broader audience of 25+ instructors.
